GEOLOGIC FIELD TRIP GUIDEBOOKS WEB ARCHIVE

BIELSKAS, Amanda, Columbia University Libraries, Columbia University, 401 Northwest Corner Building, 550 West 120th Street, New York, NY 10027

Many geologic field trip guides are available online and some have the tendency to be very ephemeral. Online guidebooks that are not archived elsewhere, are at risk for being lost. The Geologic Field Trip Guidebooks Web Archive seeks to create an archive that will preserve online geologic field trip guidebooks that are not archived online elsewhere. The Web Archive will be free and available for researchers and scholars to use, and will be made available through the Internet Archive (https://archive.org/). Web archiving is the process of creating and storing copies (or snapshots) of live websites to ensure that they are preserved and remain publicly accessible for future use and can also be used to show how the websites have evolved over time. This project is currently in development and this session will provide a brief description of web archiving, an overview of the project, and will provide a project status update as well.
