PATTERN DISRUPTION IN WATER EDUCATION THROUGH THE USE OF DATA

HALIHAN, Todd, Boone Pickens School of Geology, Oklahoma State University, 105 Noble Research Center, Stillwater, OK 74078

Education in well-known topics requires pattern disruption to break through the preconceived ideas of a general audience. Educating the public about water allows an easy pattern disruption as both the public and many scientists are not familiar with interdisciplinary water data. Using data regarding quantity, quality, and the economics of water supply that contrast with what the audience is certain that they “know” is a valuable technique to educate the public. This concept will be illustrated with simple box diagrams and evaluating the water supply of the Tigris/Euphrates River system.
