NOTES ON A PHILOSOPHY IN THE GEOSCIENCE EDUCATION

SHMAGIN, B., DEES, UMD, Duluth, MN 55803

The Geoscience Education (GE) opens the way of comprehensive scientific approach for study and description of the surrounding reality. The use of a Philosophy for the Geoscience as a particular field of natural science allows to obtain the most abstract notes, notes applicable to all levels of the GE. The goal of GE is supporting existence and developments in community of professionals studding and describing the Earth. The GE has to be realized by teacher and students, whom are both included in real research activities.

An education is verifiable communication. The media for communications is the models. Models in the widest definition. Theories in Geosciences are the hierarchy of structures and must be written in models. Conceptualization, documentation, storage data, modeling, analysis of modeling results, communication of the results are processes of research in Geosciences and in GE. The objects and processes under the study, models used for theory and communication in Geosciences allow in the process of GE to introduce the most modern ideas in mathematics and natural sciences and algorithmic tools of informational technologies.

Presented an example of study the monthly air temperatures for the state of Minnesota. The results reflected in system of models for the time spatial variability of air temperature. The same kind of models may be demonstrated for precipitations, wind speed, rivers discharge for the state of Minnesota. Then the example was transformed in a proposition for organization and completing courses from K–12 through graduate students.
