KESSLER, Holger, British Geological Survey, Natural Environment Research Council, Kingsley Dunham Centre, Keyworth, Nottingham, NG125GG, United Kingdom and VAN DER MEULEN, Michiel, TNO - Geological Survey of the Netherlands, Princetonlaan 6, Utrecht, 3584 CB, Netherlands

Keith Turner understood the need to translate knowledge into action. He also understood the meaning of collaboration beyond disciplinary and national boundaries. Since the mid 1980s he was busy connecting scientists and engineers from the US and Canada with their European counterparts, in particular in Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. This laid the foundations that led to a whole host of scientific conferences and workshops, countless papers and presentations and eventually the publication of the recent book - Applied Multidimensional Geological Modelling. Most importantly Keith has connected hundreds of people and inspired them with his enthusiasm and boundless energy to make sure geological understanding is put into the hands of practitioners to enable them to design and construct safer and more sustainable infrastructure. This presentation will give examples of the impact Keith had on science, engineering and colleagues he met over the years.
