WHERE CAN YOU GO WITH GEOSCIENCE? (Invited Presentation)

Training in the geosciences is often perceived as limiting one’s career to academia, “Big Oil,” or maybe environmental remediation. Many students today are not drawn to these “traditional” careers and therefore do not consider geoscience as a way to accomplish their life goals.

In truth, the geosciences open doors to so many more possibilities than what is seen as the geoscience brand. In this talk I will share some of where I have gone professionally with my geoscience career, including informal science education, state government, science policy, energy, environmental justice, and community benefits planning. Additionally, I will suggest ways to highlight opportunities beyond what has been considered the norm to ensure that we have the future geoscientists we need.
