KINDLING GEOLOGICAL MINDS: ADAPTING NEW TOOLS TO CREATE PASSIONATE, SUCCESSFUL GEOSCIENTISTS (Invited Presentation)

HALIHAN, Todd, Boone Pickens School of Geology, Oklahoma State University, 105 Noble Research Center, Stillwater, OK 74075

Evaluating the impact of new technologies on education requires first looking into the past. From ancient Greek to present, educators relied on available tools to create scientists who use observations and logic to advance humanity. But these scientists need “kindling of their minds” to quote Plutarch to develop a passion for geoscience and tools to train themselves with guidance from others. We will discuss the impact of evolving technologies on the geosciences and what tools of the past are still needed to be successful in our discipline.
