The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is collaborating with partners to bridge the gap between geoscience professionals and earth science teachers through the new Teacher Field Experience (TFE) program. The TFE program invites geoscience professionals to share their expertise and passion for their work through immersive field trips and workshops tailored for K-12 educators. This initiative provides teachers with hands-on field experiences and interactions with geosciences experts, including those specializing in soil science and soil processes, which they can then share with their students through newly developed lessons and career discussions. Teachers also receive ongoing support from AGI and the geoscience experts as they integrate the content into their curricula.
This poster session will feature case studies of partner involvement, such as by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service and the American Institute of Professional Geologists, and the impact the program has had on the earth science teachers. Additionally, the poster will highlight how other geoscience professionals can get involved and the benefits of contributing to the education of future geoscientists. By forging strong connections between professionals and educators, the TFE program enriches earth science education, inspires students to consider geoscience careers, and fosters a deeper appreciation for the relevance of the geosciences. We invite all interested professionals to come learn about and discuss the TFE, and your potential involvement in this rewarding endeavor.
