AGU BRIDGE PROGRAM: PROGRESS TOWARDS AN EQUITABLE GEOSCIENCE GRADUATE EDUCATION

ASHER, Pranoti, KOSTYU, Eva and LAU, Waverly, American Geophysical Union, 2000 Florida Ave NW, Washington, DC 20009-1231

Now in its fourth year, the AGU Bridge Program continues to improve equity in geoscience graduate education. By sharing information about faculty commitment, examples of mentoring activities, protocols and events for student advising and induction, and departmental plans on actively working towards diversity, equity, and inclusion, geoscience academic departments apply each fall to become Bridge partners. To date, forty-six geoscience departments have attained status of AGU Bridge Program partner by demonstrating a commitment to learning about and implementing best practices while working with students from historically marginalized communities.

Over forty students have entered graduate school in many of the departments through the AGU Bridge Program. Onboarding of new students, access to AGU programs and services, and quarterly engagement and professional development events continue to provide support to students as they navigate through their academic programs.

This presentation will share an update on the progress we have made so far and invite the geoscience community to learn more about how they can get involved with the AGU Bridge Program.
