MULTITUDE OF INTERSECTIONALITY BOXES CHECKED

JACKSON, Shirley, Geology Discipline, Earth and Physical Sciences, York College Of CUNY, 94-20, Guy R. Brewer Blvd, Jamaica, NY 11451

A Lecturer of Introductory Geology and a board member of a international society, whom spans the spectrum of intersectionality is a powerful tool for helping JEDI in the geosciences. Representation matters!

Personal 'lived' stories are shared with the students to help them navigate obstacles, micro-aggressions, and other tropes, which could potentially prevent them from pursuing a career in the geosciences. Personal stories include being a high school dropout and non-traditional student while pursuing their undergraduate degree and attending a geology convention where the taxi driver took them to the service entrance for workers.

Much work needs to be done.
